Unlocking mobile phones, whether it is a contract or Pay & Go phone, there are many reasons to get a phone unlocked.
The Service Provider (e.g. Orange or One2One) have bought the phone from the manufacturer (Nokia etc.),
modified the phone (SP locked it, hidden the menus, etc) and packaged it in their own box.
Most phones contain a software lock of some kind.
Contract phones are locked so that only sim cards, which are contract sims, will work in them.
